If you have been looking around energySavings.com or the like then you’re probably looking for all kinds of ways to curb the cost of rising energy prices. It’s a situation many Americans find themselves in and, as we move forward into the future, more and more of our precious consumable resources are being depleted and the cost is only rising. Lucky for you, there may be a way to help alleviate some of the cost and consumption in your life without having to give up all those precious little things you hold dear – heating, hot water, etc.

It’s called solar energy.

The first thing to understand is that 1) solar energy can make a difference in your life and 2) there are, in fact, two kinds of solar energy and two different ways of utilizing them.

The first type of solar energy we will talk about is Passive Solar Energy. Passive solar energy is gathered through passive means and basically just requires the sun to be shining on the implements. Materials that utilize passive solar energy are greenhouse glass and specially built spaces in the wall with insulation that trap the heat.

Active Solar Energy requires the use of solar cells and panels to capture the sun’s radiation to channel into hot water or fuel for the stove.

You can consult with a contractor on the matter or you can look into it yourself and remember that while these additions might seem costly, the amount you’ll save in the long run can more than make up for it.

Many people, particularly those that live far away from large cities, are looking for ways to curb their electricity consumption. Living at the whim of power companies, which may decide to raise their consumption charges at any time, can put a strain on personal budgets.

Portable generators are available in several sizes and prices. Usually the more power output a buyer needs, the higher the price tag. Units that would provide plenty of power for large homes may be quite expensive and out of reach for most of us.

Wind power is everywhere so why not use it? An increasing number of property owners are doing just that, particularly in areas where there is at least a slight wind for most of the year. Small wind power units would be ideal for farm towns in rural areas.

Although the first solar panels introduced a few years ago were unaffordable to most, their price is now coming down. Solar energy is becoming an attractive option as solar panels become less expensive and easier to install. With so many areas of the world getting plenty of sunshine most of the year, Solar energy could be a great electricity saver for many people.

Disposable batteries are among one of the most environmentally unfriendly items we buy. They use around half of the mercury in the United States and, when disposed of improperly, this mercury creates toxic emissions when burned. As a culture, we have made a great step in the creation and common use of rechargeable batteries in our devices. Computers, phones, digital cameras and portable dvd players all make use of this technology. We are an on-the-go culture and our portable gadgets have become something we often wouldn’t want to live without.

In our search for sustainable alternatives to our most common energy usages, solar power can provide us with the next step to helping our gadgets go green. Starting as low as 13, solar-powered chargers for electronics are simple and cost-effective. Access to the sun is, of course, a necessity but most of us have consistent access to windows, cars or a sunlit patio. Instead of plugging your cell phone’s car charger into the cigarette lighter, a solar charger can sit on the dash and provide a clean and efficient charge for your handheld necessity. At home, any window that gets a few hours of sunlight a day can provide a full charge.

To consistently power your portable electronic devices through solar chargers has become more convenient than ever before. A little awareness and forethought into when you charge and where you charge can make all the difference.

Many people drink bottled water, but many of them do not know where it comes from. Many people would be surprised to find out the truth about their favorite bottled water.

One thing that may be shocking is the source of the water. There have been reports by various new sources that state that more than half of bottled water comes from the tap. Consumers that find out are normally enraged. Lots of people pay the huge sums of money for bottled water to cut down on their tap water consumption.Confused? Here ‘s a little help .

Many people assume that bottled water is better because it is pure, clean, and clear. It may be all of these things, but the reality is that most of it is still from the tap. Much of this is filtered, and lots of bottled water today is now flavored.

People would love to assume that they are drinking rick mineral water that is flowing from a beautiful stream. Consumers will often see these images on bottles and get enticed to buy. The reality, however, is that most of this is simply marketing. It’s a billion dollar industry that is well kept by consumers in search of a tap alternative.

When it comes to lighting your home there are many environmentally- responsible options, all equally viable depending on the needs of yourself and your family.

The cheapest and more environmentally-friendly form of lighting is natural sunlight, leaving windows and skylights open is free. Of course, eventually it will get dark. So choosing the correct kind of light bulb to put in your fixtures is important. Currently there are three major options: Incandescent, Compact Florescent (CFLs) and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.

Incandescent bulbs are the classic light bulbs everyone grew up with. They use the most amount of energy but they don’t contain any toxic materials.

CFLs use significantly less energy then incandescent bulbs, but they have a “warm up” period when turning on and can contain trace amounts of mercury. They cost more but use less power and last longer.

LEDs use the least amount of power and are the most expensive bulbs, but they contain no toxic materials and will last the longest, even longer then CFLs.

Ultimately, the type of light bulb choose to use depends on your priorities. Decide what is important to you, initial cost, energy consumption, longevity and toxic materials, and choose a bulb accordingly.Keep looking, there’s more: Best Light Bulbs: Incandescent vs CFL vs LED
